The school and office building are located in the Jiangdong New District of Haikou City (the administrative center of Hainan Province). The judges of the Design Awards China said that the architecture of Haikou Jiangdong Huandao Experimental School differs from traditional buildings of educational institutions in China.
The school was designed by the Beijing-based Trace Architecture Office (TAO). In turn, the Hainan Energy Trading Building, located in the Jiangdong district, became the winner in the nomination "Office Project of the Year".
The Hainan Administration announced the creation of a new economic development area of Jiangdong in June 2018. The area is located near Meilan International Airport in Haikou City and covers an area of more than 298 square kilometers.
