As the State Committee for Hygiene and Health of the People's Republic of China reported on Tuesday, 274 infected people had signs of COVID-19, 1,164 people had no symptoms.
A representative of the capital's government, Xu Hejian, said at a press conference broadcast by China Central Television that from November 24, Beijing residents will need a negative PCR test made within the last 48 hours to visit public places. Visitors to government buildings, shopping malls, supermarkets, cafes, hotels and other establishments must demonstrate the test result through a special mobile application at the entrance. Previously, the duration of the current PCR test was 72 hours.
"The work on the prevention and control of the disease in the capital is at the most crucial, critical stage," Xu Hejian said.
Lockdown has not yet been introduced in the city, but residents of the largest district of the capital - Chaoyang - with a population of about 3.4 million people were advised not to leave its borders unless absolutely necessary. Chaoyang accounts for half of all newly identified cases of infection. The city authorities called on those living in the area to minimize social contacts and movement around the city. Chaoyang has a large number of embassies, offices of large companies, as well as the Sanlitun microdistrict, where expats live and spend time. The Russian embassy is located in the neighboring Dongcheng district to the west of Chaoyang, writes TASS.
