China to impose sanctions against American companies for arms supplies to Taiwan

20220221133207 1929 copySanctions against the American companies Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin will be accepted for the supply of weapons to Taiwan.

This was announced by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin.

"In order to protect the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China and its security interests, the Chinese government, in accordance with the law on countering foreign sanctions, decided to take countermeasures against the American defense companies Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin, which for a long time participated in the supply of US weapons to Chinese Taiwan," he said.

On February 7, the US Department of Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that the State Department approved the provision of services and the sale of equipment to Taiwan for technical "support, maintenance and improvement" of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

The transaction amount is $ 100 million. The agreement is planned to be implemented as part of the Patriot air defense system maintenance program, participation in which "is a requirement of the US government." The contractors will be Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Earlier, in October 2020, the Chinese authorities announced the imposition of sanctions against Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies and Boeing Defense. Then this measure was introduced due to the supply of American weapons to Taiwan in the amount of about $ 1.8 billion.

At that time, it was about SLAM-ER air-launched cruise missiles, HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems and MS-110 aerial reconnaissance containers for aircraft, writes TASS.
