Olympians who have had COVID before the Games must pass four PCR tests

covid 19 5070657 1920Athletes and team representatives who suffered coronavirus shortly before the start of the 2022 Olympics must pass four PCR tests with a negative result within five days before flying to Beijing, the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) told RIA Novosti.

It is reported that the rules have been revised to allow athletes and team representatives who have recently suffered coronavirus and whose recovery date may affect their trip to China to submit all necessary documents for consideration at least five days before the scheduled departure. They need to take four PCR tests within 120 hours before departure and get negative results for all of them.

"All tests must be carried out in accredited laboratories, but the test taken within 72 hours before departure must be done in a laboratory approved by the local embassy or consulate of China," the press service said.

Earlier it became known that the head coach of the Russian national hockey team Alexey Zhamnov was diagnosed with COVID-19. The specialist is at home, he misses the start of the team's training camp in preparation for the Olympics. Also, a number of hockey players did not arrive at the training camp of the Russian team in Novogorsk for medical reasons due to positive infection tests.

The Olympic Games in Beijing will be held from February 4 to 20.
