CHiruThe Russian-Chinese-Iranian naval exercises "CHIRU" are being held in the Gulf of Oman from January 18 to 22, the Russian Defense Ministry noted.

"From January 18 to 22 of this year, the CHIRU-2Q22 Russian-Chinese-Iranian naval exercise is being held in the Gulf of Oman (the Northern part of the Arabian Sea) and the airspace above it. From the Russian side, a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet as part of the Nakhimov Guards Order of the Varyag missile cruiser, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the large sea tanker Boris Butoma are taking part in it," the message says.

It is emphasized that the exercise provides for artillery firing at a naval target, joint tactical maneuvering, search and rescue at sea. In addition, the organization of inspection actions and the release of a ship captured by pirates will be worked out.

In the future, the detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet will continue the transition to the Mediterranean Sea, where, together with the forces of the Northern and Baltic fleets, it will take part in exercises of the Navy's inter-fleet grouping.
