Tencent has allowed payments in digital yuan via WeChat messenger in China

19369 copyThe Chinese telecommunications company Tencent has allowed payments to be made using the digital yuan through its WeChat messenger.

This was reported on Friday by the information resource "Icai Global".

This option is now available to pay for purchases and transfer funds for those who have an account in the digital bank of Tencent WeBank. To use the service, you need to scan the QR code in the WeChat Pay payment service. This large mobile payment platform has been actively participating in the digital yuan development project since 2018.

Payments can also be made using the pilot version of the application developed by the central bank of China. It provides an option to choose payment via WeChat. However, residents of not all regions of the country can still use this application, but only those selected for the implementation of this pilot project.

Alibaba's WeChat Pay competitor, the Alipay payment system, began providing a digital yuan payment service at the end of 2021.
