The Chinese authorities look forward to full-fledged cooperation with US President-elect Donald Trump in order to stabilize relations between the two countries. This was stated by the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Liu Pengyu, commenting on Trump's intention to increase the pace of American arms supplies to Taiwan.
Liu Pengyu expressed hope that the new U.S. government will make the right choice and work with China to maintain the hard-won momentum to stabilize Sino-American relations, lay a solid foundation for the development of China-U.S. relations, and strive for stable, healthy, and sustainable development of relations between the two countries.
The diplomat also stressed that the supply of military aid and arms sales to Taiwan by the United States is a serious violation of the "one China" principle and the three joint communiques of China and the United States, especially dated August 17, 1982. He called on the United States to immediately stop arming Taiwan and stop dangerous actions that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
