Chinese energy company Sinopec has completed drilling of the deepest geothermal exploration well in China. Its depth reaches 5.2 thousand meters, China Central Television reports.
This project was a breakthrough for geological exploration in the south of China. According to Guo Xiusheng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, geothermal resources have been discovered in several layers of the well. According to the scientist, up to 1.4 billion tons of conventional fuel are deposited on an area of about 50 square kilometers around Haikou.
The facility is located on the territory of the administrative center of Hainan, Haikou city. The temperature in the mine reaches 188 degrees Celsius. It is assumed that such a deposit will play an important role in the development of a green economy and accelerate the transition to low-carbon technologies in Hainan.
