A group of Chinese and Russian scientists went on an expedition from Vladivostok on the research vessel Akademik Oparin. Experts are investigating climate change and the state of ecosystems in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Scientists have a goal to study changes in the Sea of Okhotsk over a period of decades, the press service of the Pacific Oceanological Institute reports. Scientists also plan to compile new characteristics of deep waters.
The expedition consists of 23 people — employees and students of the institutes of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dalrybvtuz, as well as two scientists from the People's Republic of China representing the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research in Shanghai. Similar studies were conducted 31 years ago, in 1993.
