The city of Haikou, the administrative center of the South Chinese province of Hainan, has created an international group of volunteers to help the socio-economic development of the free trade port. The group included 20 foreigners from 15 countries.
According to the publication, the structure was created on the initiative of the city Administration of Science, Technology and Industrial Informatization together with the Scientific and Technical Association of Haikou. Its purpose will be to facilitate local social welfare activities.
The head of the group, Pi Jinyu, said that the volunteers will help government agencies that interact with foreigners. They plan to deal with civil issues, education, environmental protection and medicine. It is expected that such activities will contribute to the deep integration of international cultures.
