The Chinese name of the gas pipeline is the Eastern Route. At the moment, the laying of a shield tunnel under the Yangtze River in the area of the city of Nantong in the eastern province of Jiangsu has been completed, China Central Television reports.
The tunnel under the Yangtze River is about 10 km long, the largest depth is 60 m, and the diameter is 6.8 m. These figures surpass all other similar projects in the world, the TV channel reports.
Construction work on this section began in 2020, the tunnel was completed on December 4, 2022, after which the laying of the gas pipeline began. According to official information, the facility will be put into operation by the end of 2024.
