Apple has removed the Threads and WhatsApp applications of Meta Corporation (recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation) from the Chinese version of the App Store for national security reasons, Reuters writes.
There have also been requests regarding the popular messengers Telegram, Signal and Line, which have also been removed from the store at the moment. Instagram Facebook and other Meta Corporation apps (banned in Russia) are still available in the store.
The removal of applications is related to new cybersecurity rules introduced in China in the summer of 2023. The measures are designed to eliminate potential risks in this area and guarantee the healthy development of the national Internet industry.
