Works from 105 countries and regions of the world apply for participation in the screening. The main award of the festival is the "Golden Cup", which is awarded to the producer of the film. Full-length and documentary films, cartoons and animated films can apply for it.
The Shanghai Festival has been held since 1993. It is a world-class event and attracts celebrities of the world cinema. Until 2001, the event was held every two years, after which it was decided to make it an annual event.
