At the meeting, the heads of Australia and China discussed the countries' trade relations, climate and clean energy. According to Penny Wong, Beijing and Canberra intend to expand dialogue on a list of key issues related to climate and clean energy. Countries have also made progress in removing trade barriers.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Penny Wong said that a joint decision had been made to continue bilateral meetings on consular issues, defense and trade. The parties also agreed to increase mutual understanding and transparency.
The meeting also discussed the death sentence of an Australian citizen, Yang Hengjun, handed down by a court in China on charges of espionage. The representative of the Australian Foreign Ministry made it clear that the state will continue to advocate for the protection of a citizen of its state.
