Chinese Foreign Ministry: NATO's eastward advance will undermine regional peace and stability

This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, in response to a request to comment on the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about plans for NATO penetration into the Asian region.

NATO's advance into the Asia-Pacific region does not correspond to NATO's positioning as a regional defensive military organization, Mao Ning said. It will bring block confrontation to Asia and undermine regional peace and stability.

The politician recalled that relations between China and Russia go beyond the model of a military-political alliance during the Cold War. At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance puts together small groups and engages in block confrontation, she added.

On December 14, Vladimir Putin, speaking on a direct line, said that Russia sees attempts by the West to switch NATO's activities towards the Asian direction, which clearly goes beyond the statutory goals of the North Atlantic Alliance.
