Such a cable allows to reduce electricity losses, Xinhua news agency reports.

The project was implemented jointly by the government of the Wujiang District of Suzhou, the state-owned electric grid company Suzhou Power Supply and the Jiangsu Etern Company.

This is the first such project in China. According to the expert referred to by the agency, laying a direct current cable specifically in this case reduced electricity losses by about 70%.

The laying of a new cable in Jiangsu Province lays the foundation for the use of high-temperature superconducting low-voltage DC cables in the power distribution system in cities. In addition, it serves as an example for the construction of new energy systems, the expert emphasizes.
