China has developed a new method for the synthesis of starch from corn

11fe5545c15bScientists from the Institute of Biotechnology Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have developed a new highly effective method for producing synthetic starch from corn stalks.

This was reported on Monday by Xinhua news agency with reference to a study published in the Chinese journal Science Bulletin.
It is noted that to convert the cellulose of the stems into starch, the researchers used a multienzyme complex and baking yeast. In addition, microbial protein was obtained in the process of aerobic (with the participation of oxygen) fermentation.
Experts emphasize that the method does not require the use of expensive equipment, high energy costs and the use of coenzymes (organic compounds necessary for the catalytic action of enzymes). Thus, its implementation will make it possible to reduce the cost of production of synthetic starch and microbial protein, writes TASS.
