In China, an ex-general of the Ministry of State Security was sentenced to death

The People's Court of the middle instance of the Chinese city of Changchun on Tuesday sentenced to death, suspended for two years, a former member of the party committee of the Ministry of State Security of the People's Republic of China, ex-Major General Liu Yanping.

According to China Central Television, he was found guilty of taking bribes totaling 234 million yuan (about $34.5 million).
The court found that from 2001 to 2022, Liu Yanping illegally assisted third parties in business and settlement of various cases. During this period, he received bribes with money and valuable gifts in the amount of 234 million yuan.
Liu Yanping has been deprived of his political rights, all his property and income obtained dishonestly will be confiscated and transferred to the state treasury.
Liu Yanping held various positions in the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of State Security of the People's Republic of China. Over the past ten years, he has served as Deputy Minister of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, and also headed the discipline commission of the Ministry of State Security of the People's Republic of China.
A death sentence with a two-year delay is one of the penalties in the PRC for persons who have committed a serious crime. After the postponement, the sentence can be commuted to life imprisonment if the convicted person does not commit an intentional crime during these two years, writes TASS.
