The twenty-sixth Hainan International Wedding Festival "Tianya Haijiao" will be held in Sanya (Hainan Province, South China) from December 11 to 13. This was reported by the newspaper "Hainan Zhibao".
According to tradition, the festival will be held in the city's coastal park of the same name "Tianya Haijiao" (translated as "The Edge of the World"). An integral part of it is a group wedding ceremony: from year to year hundreds of couples gather in the park, who swear an oath of love and fidelity and participate in a mass wedding photo shoot.
According to Hainan Daily, a distinctive feature of this year's ceremony will be that the organizers will invite at least 20 couples, where the partners are medical workers and volunteers who helped Hainan Province fight the coronavirus. In August of this year, an outbreak of the disease was recorded on the island - the total number of cases in the region since the beginning of the eighth month exceeded 20 thousand people, over 12 thousand suffered from the disease in an asymptomatic form.
The publication notes that the festival will host a number of thematic events - forums, conferences, wedding fashion shows.
The international wedding Festival "Tianya Haijiao" has been held in Sanya since 1996. It is organized with the support of the City Department of Tourism, Culture, Broadcasting and Sports.
By 2025, the authorities intend to turn Hainan into an "international center of tourism and consumption." The Chinese island is often referred to as "Eastern Hawaii" - natural landscapes, tropical forests, a developed network of hotels in combination with beaches and a coastline stretching more than 1,9 thousand km attract guests from the most remote parts of the world. In 2021, about 81 million tourists visited the island - 25.5% more than a year earlier, writes TASS.
