The fleets of Russia and China will hold exercises "Vostok-2022" in the Sea of Japan

The fleets of Russia and China will operate in the Sea of Japan as part of the Vostok-2022 strategic exercises, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said on Monday during a briefing for foreign military attaches on the procedure for conducting the Vostok-2022 exercises.

"The Pacific Fleet [of the Russian Federation], together with the Navy of the People's Liberation Army of China, is working out cooperation in the northern and central parts of the Sea of Japan in the Far Eastern Sea Zone in order to assist land forces in the Primorsky direction, as well as the defense of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity," he said. Fomin clarified that practical jokes of general-purpose naval forces will take place in the waters and coastal zones of the Seas of Japan and Okhotsk.
"Nine main polygons on the territory of the Eastern Military District will be used to conduct practical actions of troops (forces): six combined-arms polygons - Knyaz-Volkonsky, Sergeyevsky, Uspenovsky, Hot Keys, Lagunnoye, Burduny, three aviation polygons - Novoselsky, Telemba, Anna Bay," Fomin added. He specified that formations and military units at the training grounds of the Eastern Military District will improve field, sea, air training with practical elaboration of issues of conducting both defensive, in certain areas, and offensive actions.
"The return of the military authorities and troops to the points of permanent deployment after participating in the exercise is planned until the end of September," Fomin said.
The Vostok-2022 exercises will be held from September 1 to 7 under the leadership of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Eastern Military District and will be the final stage of the preparation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2022.
As part of the coalition groups of troops, joint actions within the framework of strategic exercises will be practiced by operational groups of management bodies, military contingents and observers from the CSTO countries, the SCO and other partner states, including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria, Tajikistan. From the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, military authorities and troops of the Eastern Military District, part of the airborne forces, long-range and military transport aviation will take part in the "East". In addition, operational management groups from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the FSB and the FSO of Russia will take part in the "East".
In total, over 50 thousand military personnel, more than five thousand units of weapons and military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats and support vessels will be involved in the exercises, writes TASS.
