The Chinese Defense Ministry said that the army will be on high alert against the background of the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi. This was reported to CGTN by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China, Senior Colonel Wu Qian.
"The People's Liberation Army of China (PLA - approx. TASS) will be on alert, will conduct a number of targeted military operations and take deterrence measures, will firmly defend state sovereignty and security, and will also defeat attempts to interfere with external forces and their plans for Taiwan's independence," he said.

Wu Qian noted that the consent of the Taiwanese authorities to accept the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi will inevitably lead to extremely serious consequences. "The [ruling] Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan, relying on the support of external forces and colluding with them to create chaos, insisted on inviting Pelosi to Taiwan. The actions of the Taiwanese authorities are extremely dangerous and will inevitably lead to serious consequences," the Chinese Defense Ministry said in a statement posted on the WeChat social network.
