The number of base stations installed in China for the 5G communication standard has exceeded 1.854 million. As Wang Peng, the official representative of the Telecommunications and Communications Department of the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of the People's Republic of China, said at a briefing on Tuesday, by the end of the year their number will exceed 2 million.
"To date, 1.854 million 5G base stations have been installed and connected in our country. Among them, about 300 thousand were installed in the second quarter of this year," he said.
"We will make all necessary efforts to install 600 thousand base stations during this year. Thus, their total number will exceed 2 million units," the representative of the department added.
He noted that by now about 400 million households in China are in the coverage area of Internet networks with data transfer speeds of up to 1 GB per second.
China's leading mobile operators have started providing 5G communication services to the population since the end of October 2019. According to the ministry's forecast, by 2023 the number of 5G subscribers in China should exceed 560 million - about 40% of the total number of mobile users in the country.
