Grain imports to China in May compared to April amounted to 15.91 million tons for $8.86 billion, an increase of 19.4% compared to April in monetary terms, and by weight - by 16.9%. This was reported on Thursday by the Main Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China.
At the same time, according to the ministry, grain supplies to China from abroad in January - May decreased by 0.2% year-on-year, amounting to 66.51 million tons. In value terms, grain imports increased by 24.9% in five months to $34.67 billion.
As follows from the statistics of the State Technical University, China in 2021 purchased 164.53 million tons of grain abroad for $74.8 billion. Compared with 2020, China increased the physical volume of imports of this type of food by 18.1%, in value terms, purchases increased by 49.2%
