"The Wenchang Cosmodrome is the launch pad of our country, designed to launch a new generation of launch vehicles. This is an important national springboard for deep space exploration, it occupies a special place and plays an important role in China's aerospace system," Xi Jinping stressed.
According to the Chinese leader, the Hainan cosmodrome is of great strategic importance, since it is associated with the development of the manned space flight program of the People's Republic of China. He also pointed out the need for constant modernization of this star harbor.
"We need to persevere in creating a world-class cosmodrome," Xi Jinping added. The Head of State recalled that this year important tasks have been set for this launch pad to launch the Tianzhou-4 and Tianzhou-5 space trucks, as well as the Wentian and Mengtian modules for the Chinese orbital station.
"Everything must be carefully prepared, organized and executed, to ensure the absolute success of the launches," Xi Jinping ordered.
The launch pad in the city of Wenchang is one of China's four space harbors, the only place in the country where technical conditions allow the launch of the CZ-7A (Changzheng-7-a), the longest (60.7 meters) rocket of national development. Other Chinese carriers of the new generation, which only Hainan is capable of launching into orbit in the country, are the commercial CZ-8 (Changzheng-8), as well as CZ-5 and CZ-5B (Changcheng-5 and Changcheng-5-be). They are the most massive (870 and 837.5 tons, respectively) of all analogues developed in China. In addition, this cosmodrome is a popular attraction, which in 2021 attracted over 8 million tourists who spent 6 billion yuan (more than $ 942 million) during their visit.
