Xi Jinping summed up the results of the Winter Olympics in Beijing

0698924aea8fab09a49b6Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday expressed gratitude to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and members of Olympic families from around the world for supporting the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, he also expressed deep respect for all athletes who came to China and fought for medals.

"After seven years of hard work, the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games were successfully held in Beijing, the whole country was watching them, they were in the center of attention of the whole world," the Chinese leader said at a solemn meeting dedicated to summing up the results of the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing.

He noted that the Chinese people, together with the peoples of other countries, overcame various difficulties and challenges by holding an Olympic event that will go down in history. Xi Jinping noted that the Beijing Games were able to attract billions of viewers around the world, becoming the most watched Winter Olympic Games in history.

"The Winter Olympics were held brilliantly and received positive assessments from the international community… On behalf of the Chinese government and more than 1.4 billion Chinese, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, members of Olympic and Paralympic families and friends from all over the world," Xi Jinping said.

He also expressed deep respect to athletes from all over the world who competed for medals at the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing.

The Winter Olympics in Beijing took place on February 4-20. The Russian national team won 32 medals (six gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze) and took ninth place in the unofficial medal standings. According to the total number of awards, the Russians became the second and showed the best result in the history of performances at the Winter Games.
