China will adhere to an independent position on Ukraine

Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang said this on Friday during a speech at the EU-China summit held via videoconference.

As noted in the message of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the politician outlined his country's principled position on the Ukrainian issue. "He stated that China adheres to a peaceful and independent foreign policy and stands for compliance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter," the statement of the diplomatic department states.

The Chinese government intends to cooperate with the European Union to prevent a large-scale humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Li Keqiang said, writes TASS.

"China, for its part, has always promoted peace negotiations and will continue to work together with the EU and the international community in order to play a constructive role for the sake of an early defusing of tension, ending violence, preventing an even larger humanitarian crisis and restoring peace as soon as possible," the foreign ministry quoted him as saying.
