China revises anti-discrimination law against women

2020 03 29 mixnews 47rs200329a787Chinese lawmakers have begun discussing a bill to revise the law aimed at improving the protection of women and eliminating discrimination against them, Xinhua news agency reported on December 20.

The draft amendments to the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests were presented at the current session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) for the first reading.

According to the draft, the necessary measures should be taken to gradually improve the systems for protecting the rights and interests of women and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women.

The draft also includes provisions on gender discrimination in education and employment, as well as on improving measures to prevent and combat sexual harassment. This draft represents a serious revision of the law that was adopted almost 30 years ago.
