US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are likely to announce the easing of visa restrictions during a possible meeting in a virtual format.

This was reported on Thursday by the newspaper Politico.

According to her sources, at the expected negotiations, the dates of which have not yet been approved, the leaders may also announce a decision on the resumption of the consulates. According to the newspaper, this meeting is a good opportunity to reset relations between Washington and Beijing. However, according to sources, no major breakthroughs are expected in the framework of possible negotiations.

The assistant to the US President for National Security, Jake Sullivan, said at the end of October that the host of the White House was confident in the need to hold a meeting with Xi Jinping, since diplomatic contacts are of particular importance in light of the competition between Washington and Beijing. He noted that Biden "considers it important that there be an opportunity for personal contacts with Xi Jinping." Sullivan recalled that in October he held a meeting with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee), head of the secretariat of the CPC Central Committee Commission on Foreign Affairs. As Sullivan stated, during the consultations, an agreement was reached that the leaders of the United States and China "will have the opportunity to hold a virtual meeting before the end of this year."

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on October 6 that the United States and China are finalizing the details of an agreement to hold bilateral contacts at the highest level. Prior to that, Reuters, with reference to a high-ranking representative of the Washington administration, informed about the achievement of an agreement in principle on holding a bilateral online meeting of the leaders of the two countries by the end of the year.
