China intends to minimize plastic pollution by 2025

scale 1200 3The profile roadmap was published by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China.

The action plan, in particular, involves the refusal of food delivery services from plastic containers, the creation of special industrial parks for the processing of plastic waste, as well as more active work on cleaning lakes and coastal sea waters from plastic accumulated in them, RIA Novosti writes.
The fight against plastic pollution in the People's Republic of China has been conducted for several years. An important step in this direction was the refusal of hotels in many Chinese cities from disposable toiletries in 2019. According to environmentalists, disposable toiletries are one of the serious sources of environmental pollution with plastic. There are 13-15 million hotel rooms in China. With their workload at 50%, 6.5 million sets of disposable toiletries are sent to the landfill every day in China.
To solve the problem of plastic pollution of the seas, China in 2018 developed a new type of plastic that decomposes in seawater in a matter of days. The new material was immediately put into production: three plants with a capacity of 75 thousand tons per year were immediately built – this is half of the current global capacity for the production of biodegradable plastic.
The leader in the fight against plastic pollution in China is the resort island of Hainan. Last year, a ban on the sale of disposable containers made of non-degradable plastic was already introduced there. A ban on the production, sale and use of plastic bags, cups, straws and food packages has been introduced. By 2025, the moratorium will apply to all disposable products made of non-degradable plastic.
