China will provide $30 million in emergency aid to Afghanistan

The Chinese authorities will provide emergency assistance to Afghanistan in the amount of 200 million yuan (about $30 million). This was stated on Wednesday by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"In connection with the needs of the Afghan people, our country will provide emergency assistance to Afghanistan in the amount of 200 million yuan," the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted a Chinese diplomat who spoke at an online meeting with the foreign ministers of Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

According to Wang Yi, the funds will be used for the purchase of food and medicines, vaccination. "As soon as the necessary conditions appear, including in the field of security, China will help Afghanistan in reconstruction and in the implementation of projects aimed at improving the people's welfare," he added.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan reported earlier, a meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was organized online on Wednesday. The consultations took place the day after the announcement of the composition of the interim government of Afghanistan, which included only members of the radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation).
