The Supreme People's Prosecutor's Office of China has authorized the arrest of Jiang Chaoliang, who previously headed the party committee of Hubei Province. According to the investigation, he is suspected of taking bribes on an especially large scale.
Jiang Chaoliang served as party secretary from 2016 to early 2020, during which time the first outbreak of COVID-19 was recorded in the administrative center of the region, the city of Wuhan. After leaving office, he joined the structure of the National People's Congress.
The investigation believes that the official used his official position to obtain illegal benefits in the interests of third parties. His case has become part of an ongoing large-scale anti-corruption campaign in China, in which both high-ranking officials and business representatives are being held accountable.
