As stated by the official representative of the CPPCC, Liu Jieyi, at a press conference during the "two sessions" in Beijing, during the New Year holidays (February 16-24), the volume of duty-free purchases in Hainan increased by 30.8% compared to last year, and the number of visa-free foreign tourists increased by 75.6%. According to the Hainan Daily newspaper, these figures indicate not only the tourist attractiveness of the province, but also the success of the new economic regime.
Liu Jieyi stressed that the launch of the free port under a special customs regime marks a new stage in China's institutional opening and confirms the country's determination to deepen reforms. According to him, Hainan's practice is becoming a model for further trade liberalization and international cooperation.
The provincial authorities intend to use this momentum for a qualitative leap in the development of tourism. According to the regional tourism administration, Hainan plans to become a world-class global tourist destination by 2035. To do this, the island will expand international projects, deepen partnerships with foreign tour operators and promote combined routes for travelers.
