Russia has proposed equipping the Chinese Mars rover Tianwen-3 with its own scientific instrument. This was announced by the scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Lev Zeleny. According to him, the Russian side has sent a corresponding proposal, but there is no response on its approval yet.
The scientist noted that negotiations on other international projects are underway in parallel. In particular, the placement of the Russian instrument on the Indian mission to Venus has been practically agreed upon. This indicates the continuation of scientific cooperation in the field of exploration of the planets of the Solar system.
Earlier, the Chinese side announced plans to expand interplanetary programs, including a two-launch mission to return samples from Mars. The Tianwen-3 project is open to the participation of foreign partners, which implies the possibility of integrating foreign scientific instruments into the apparatus.
