In the southern Chinese province of Hainan, during the Lunar New Year holidays (February 15-23), control over the tourism industry has been strengthened. According to the local press, the authorities and relevant departments have focused on ensuring a comfortable and safe stay for the island's guests, as well as consumer protection.
Since the beginning of the holidays, the flow of tourists has increased significantly, and therefore measures have been taken in advance to prevent violations. The Regional Department of Tourism has published a list of hotels that received the most complaints in the first half of February. The main complaints concerned the quality of service, incorrect advertising, lack of transparent pricing and the imposition of additional services.
In Sanya, measures were promptly taken against hotels that unilaterally cancelled bookings: their offers were removed from online platforms, and the companies themselves were blacklisted. In Lingshui County, catering and hotel sector enterprises were required to indicate the exact prices of seafood and to abandon formulations that mislead customers. The authorities expect that enhanced supervision and a warning system will help consolidate the principles of fair business conduct in the tourism market.
