Traditionally, the Spring Festival in China is held with the family, but this year the number of citizens who prefer to celebrate the New Year at resorts and tourist bases has increased significantly. On the first two days of the new year, the Chinese exchange visits with wishes of good luck and prosperity, and also observe regional customs: from cleaning the house and decorating it with red lanterns to the obligatory jiaozi dumplings.
The New Year holidays, officially established from February 15 to 23, are accompanied by large—scale cultural events, from dragon and lion dances to lantern festivals and fireworks shows, which gives a powerful boost to the consumer market, the hotel and transport sectors. It is expected that in 40 days (from February 2 to March 13), the Chinese will make a record 9.5 billion long-distance trips, which will be a historic high.
The spring festival traditionally gives a powerful impetus to the consumer market, tourism and transport sectors. This year, the Chinese authorities expect that high consumer demand during the New Year holidays will lay the foundation for strong economic growth for the entire coming period. In addition, a Russian-Chinese festival dedicated to the celebration of New Year and Carnival will be held in Beijing from February 19 to 22.
