Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 1.6 million people in the eastern province of Zhejiang due to the approach of tropical storm Yinfa. This was reported on Monday by the Global Times newspaper with reference to the Central Meteorological Service of China.
In connection with the approaching storm, the State Committee for Development and Reform of the People's Republic of China on Monday recommended suspending the work of railway transport and the metro. The local authorities were asked to introduce the first level of emergency response.
According to the Central Meteorological Service of China, on Monday at 09:50 local time (04:50 Moscow time), the Yinfa storm reached the coast of Zhejiang Province. The maximum wind force was 10 points. According to meteorologists, the element can cause damage to Shanghai, the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other areas in eastern China.
Experts predict the continuation of heavy rains in the region until July 29. The work of tourist facilities in the coastal areas of Zhejiang Province and Shanghai has been suspended.
