Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stressed that China opposes sanctions that violate international law and are not approved by the UN Security Council, and against the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation in the interests of Ukraine.
The Chinese diplomat noted the importance of creating a favorable atmosphere for dialogue and negotiations between all interested parties. He also condemned unilateral measures against Russia.
On December 12, the EU Council decided to permanently block Russian assets, and the European Commission is planning their possible expropriation for lending to Ukraine, which Moscow regards as an act of theft.
