For the first time, the Novosibirsk Regional Puppet Theater will take part in a major international event in China — the 8th Quanzhou International Doll Exhibition, which will be held from December 11 to 16. The festival will bring together bands from Argentina, Egypt, Togo, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries. The event is organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Fujian Province, Quanzhou Municipality and Unima China.
The exhibition program introduces the audience to a variety of world traditions of puppetry: glove and cane puppets, shadow theater, marionettes, as well as performances by foreign groups. The Novosibirsk theater will present the play "About Petrushka" as part of the event.
Quanzhou, located in Fujian Province on the coast of the Taiwan Strait, is considered one of the key centers of the ancient maritime Silk Road. The city is known for the rich cultural heritage of the Minnan civilization, a developed port economy and many historical sites. The Novosibirsk Puppet Theater, founded in 1933, has shown 1,250 performances for 120,000 spectators over the past year.
