The opening ceremony was held on Phoenix Island. The festival is organized by the Media Corporation of China in cooperation with the authorities of Hainan Province and will last until December 9th. This year, 14 feature films, 10 short films and 6 documentaries, released in 2025, will compete for the main Golden Coconut award.
The Organizing Committee reported record interest in the competition: 4,564 applications from 119 countries and regions were submitted for participation. The main program features works by directors of different generations and professions — from cinematographers to physicists, environmentalists and teachers, which provided a wide thematic and visual diversity of competitive films.
The festival program includes about 150 Chinese and foreign films that will be shown in cinemas and outdoor venues in Sanya, Lingshui and the administrative center of Hainan — Haikou. The organizers expect that the large-scale film project will strengthen cultural exchanges, support the development of the film business and further stimulate the tourist flow to the region.
