Chinese startup Vionbotics has unveiled a robot capable of automatically cleaning vertical and hard-to-reach surfaces in public spaces.

Shanghai-based Vionbotics has started mass production of robots that perform three-dimensional cleaning of walls, glass partitions and plumbing. According to the Zhongguo Zhibao newspaper, this is the world's first mass production of cleaners with artificial intelligence capable of working with vertical surfaces.

The robot is designed for use in high traffic areas such as airports, shopping malls, offices, and hospitals. It is equipped with a mobile chassis and a robotic arm capable of maneuvering within 55 cm, which allows the device to operate in confined spaces like toilet cubicles. The system recognizes obstacles, the level of contamination and automatically selects the appropriate cleaning strategy, including contact and non-contact modes.

The company notes that such robots are designed to partially replace employees in "dirty, exhausting and routine tasks." The rapid development of robotics in China contributes to the growth of such solutions: according to the State Administration for Market Regulation, by the end of 2024, more than 451 thousand enterprises in the intelligent robot industry were operating in the country — three times more than in 2020.
