In China, an employee surnamed Chen has won a court case against a company that fired him for walking during his sick leave. According to the South China Morning Post, the court ruled that the dismissal was illegal and ordered the employer to pay compensation to the man in the amount of more than 118 thousand yuan (about $ 16 thousand).
The incident occurred in Jiangsu Province. Chen was on sick leave due to a back injury sustained at work, and later took another sick leave, citing pain in his leg. However, a few days after submitting the documents, the company fired him, saying that the videos showed him walking more than 16,000 steps a day.
The court found the employer's actions unlawful, pointing out that the walk does not contradict the recovery regime and does not prove the simulation of illness. The story sparked an active discussion on Chinese social media, where many users supported the employee and condemned the company's actions.
