The number of foreign tourists visiting Sanya— the main resort of Hainan Island, increased by 45.6% in January—August compared to the same period last year and exceeded 641,000 people. According to the Sanya Daily, more than 80% of passengers arriving at Phoenix International Airport are foreigners, most of whom enjoy visa—free entry.
According to Zhang Hao, deputy head of the Sanya Tourism Development Department, the authorities are actively promoting the resort abroad, including in Russia and Belarus, developing new tourism products and wellness programs based on traditional Chinese medicine. To do this, the city cooperates with medical institutions and explores the possibilities of individual medical tours.
As Sanya Vice Mayor Yin Chengling emphasized, the increase in the number of foreign visitors is primarily due to the launch of new international flights, including direct flights to Minsk. She added that the city is improving the infrastructure for tourists: signs are being installed in Russian, payment options with foreign bank cards are expanding, and services for a comfortable stay for foreigners are being improved.
