According to Alyoshin, he heard a whistle and noticed a man making hand signals as he passed by the southern tip of Lamma Island on a catamaran. The Russian knew from local news that a tourist had been wanted in the area for several days, and assumed that it was him. Despite the difficulties in approaching the shore and heavy surf, the man managed to help the lost man get on the catamaran and safely move away from the rocks.
It turned out that the tourist from mainland China does not speak English, and Alyoshin himself does not speak Chinese. However, they managed to find a common language: the Russian shared water and food, and then, through his companion, informed the police about the discovery. When the catamaran docked at Power Station Beach, paramedics and emergency services personnel were already waiting for the victim, who immediately took him to the hospital.
According to Hong Kong media, the tourist, 52-year-old Zheng To, went hiking on the island on Saturday and did not return to the hotel. His colleagues sounded the alarm, and searches were conducted for several days, but they yielded no results. Only a chance encounter with a Russian tourist saved the man's life and put an end to a multi-day search operation.
