EU may impose sanctions against Chinese companies

Крупный

Brussels is considering restrictive measures against a number of Chinese firms as part of a new package of anti-Russian sanctions.

According to Politico, the European Union is discussing the possibility of including several Chinese companies in the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which is scheduled to be adopted on September 19. Diplomats note that we are talking about expanding the sanctions list of legal entities from China in order to increase pressure on Moscow and demonstrate the EU's commitment to international obligations.

According to Politico, this step may also serve as a signal for US President Donald Trump to take more active action against Russia. However, experts note that even the inclusion of Chinese companies in the blacklist does not fulfill Trump's demands to impose high duties on imports from China, and past EU measures against Chinese firms have not had a significant impact on the position of the American leader.

On September 15, Trump announced his readiness to impose sanctions against Russia, but only on condition that Europe takes action first. He stressed that it is unacceptable for the United States to act "fully" against Moscow, while European countries continue to buy Russian oil. The US president also insists on stopping purchases of Russian oil by all NATO countries and imposing duties on imports from China in the amount of 50-100%, which, in his opinion, will help resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
