According to Politico, the visit may take place between mid-October and early November, after which the European parliamentarians will pay a return visit to China in the spring of 2026. According to sources, relations between the EU and Beijing largely depend on China's position on Ukraine, while analysts believe it is unlikely that China will change course while continuing to support Russia.
Among the priority topics are not only security issues, but also trade cooperation. European parliamentarians emphasize the need to reduce the trade deficit with China, which remains extremely high. In their opinion, building more balanced economic relations should become a key area of cooperation.
The last time the EU and Chinese delegations met was at the inter-parliamentary summit in Beijing in 2018. After that, contacts were suspended first due to the pandemic, and then against the background of sanctions imposed by China against a number of European politicians in 2021, which effectively froze the dialogue for almost seven years.
