According to Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui, the growing popularity of the Chinese language and cultural practices contributes to the deepening of mutual understanding. Regular events such as wushu and Weiqi tournaments, dragon boat rowing competitions, exhibitions of calligraphy, paintings, and theatrical performances allow the peoples of Russia and China to strengthen friendly ties through culture.
The diplomat noted that the origins of cultural exchange go back to the 17th century, to the times of the "Great Tea Way". Back then, there was not only an exchange of goods, but also a mutual enrichment of traditions, which laid a solid foundation for the development of relations in the modern era.
In turn, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov stressed that the Years of Culture between Russia and China have become a key instrument of rapprochement. More than 230 events are planned within the framework of the project, many of which have already been implemented: the Chinese public was introduced to leading Russian creative teams and unique museum collections. According to Morgulov, this program sets the momentum for continuing active humanitarian exchanges in the future.
