The Chinese theater troupe Babeta is preparing a play based on Anton Chekhov's "The Lady with the Dog" to participate in the 12th Wuzhen Theater Festival, which will be held from October 16 to 26 in Zhejiang Province. The production promises to be one of the most notable in the program due to the original director's approach.
The author of the play is She Mutze, a graduate of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts and a student of theater teacher Gennady Trostyanetsky. He plans to combine traditional Chekhov drama with avant-garde elements without violating the spirit of the original work.
The organizers report that the festival will feature more than 70 performances from 10 countries, including 15 international projects. The production of Babeta will become part of the Years of Culture of Russia and China, announced by the decision of the leaders of the two countries.
