The Tsunami Advisory Center, established in the coastal city of Sanya on the island of Hainan, began work with the support of the National Center for Marine Environment Forecasting and the local Oceanic Research Administration. The main task of the center is to collect and analyze data to build an early warning system about marine threats.
Special attention will be paid to monitoring tsunamis, sea heat, harmful algal blooms and other natural risks specific to the South China Sea region. The center will help improve the response to natural disasters related to active tectonics and frequent earthquakes in the area.
In addition to forecasting, the institution will become an international platform for the exchange of information and experience between countries, strengthening cooperation in the field of maritime safety and ecology. Such cooperation will make it possible to respond more quickly to threats and develop joint measures to reduce the consequences of marine disasters.
