Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a briefing that China is counting on the fulfillment of the statement by former US President Donald Trump, who expressed support for the education of Chinese students in American educational institutions. He recalled that such exchanges traditionally play an important role in the development of humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The representative of the Foreign Ministry also noted that the Chinese side will continue to effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of its students and scientists in the United States. According to him, Beijing will closely monitor Washington's actions in order to prevent discrimination in the educational sphere.
Earlier, the US authorities tightened visa requirements for students from China, especially for people suspected of having links with the Chinese Communist Party. Despite this, Donald Trump subsequently stated that he supported the presence of Chinese students in the United States, stressing that educational cooperation had always suited his administration.
