The city of Sanya in the south of China's Hainan Province is actively implementing an environmental program to restore and protect mangrove forests. According to the Sanya Daily, the total area of these ecosystems in the region has increased to 258.69 hectares, of which more than 31 hectares are new plantings that have appeared since the beginning of 2022.
One of the key areas of restoration was the Telugan region, where 29.2 hectares of mangroves were recreated. Also, in the area of the Haitang River, work has been carried out to remove invasive plants and restore swamp areas, which has improved the condition of forests on an area of over 120 hectares.
Sanya became the first city in Hainan to implement a comprehensive mangrove forest protection system. As part of this initiative, a special patrol service has been created, which uses drones for remote monitoring, among other things. These measures are designed to preserve the unique ecosystem and increase the resilience of coastal areas to climatic and anthropogenic influences.
